photography
Photography means different things to different people. Some use photos to help them remember while others use them to share stories. I use photography to see.
Where it all began
The Canon G5 Powershot was one of the first digital cameras that combined a large lens and advanced controls in a cargo-shorts-size package. I bought mine in before leaving for a teaching gig in Finland. With a good camera in a foreign country, you’re bound to capture something interesting.
In the summer of 2008, I snapped a photo of a yak in Tibet that eventually landed in the February 2010 issue of National Geographic. Publication in the National Geographic Magazine was the only experience that could have possibly topped that actual trip to and throughout Tibet!
What I’m photographing now
After each trip, I just kept shooting, studying and investing in better subjects, techniques and equipment. I now shoot with a Canon 7D, which is an exquisite machine. Over the past year, I’ve mostly shot corporate events and speakers. Architecture and editorial photography are my real passions.
Time and temperature willing, I’d like to shoot a documentary series in East Austin and make it into a short film with interviews overlaid on top of shots.
